Inside the Practice

We are very proud of the facilities we are able to offer our clients. Click on the tabs below for a tour of individual rooms.

There are 2 consultation rooms at Portland Vets Edenbridge. They are both spacious enough to fit a family or large dogs comfortably so that animals and owners can feel relaxed and not “pushed into a corner”.

We run 15 minute appointments to allow a thorough examination of your pet and a good discussion and explanation of any problems and treatments required. We especially like to take our time with nervous patients and if your pet falls into this category please inform reception when booking an appointment.
Consultations at Portland Vets Edenbridge are by appointment only. We will of course prioritise and see any emergency cases.

Consultations are available
Monday to Friday 9am – 11.30am, and 3.30pm-6.30pm
Saturday 9am – 11.30am

The treatment room is the hub of activity at Portland Vets Edenbridge. It is where we take x-rays, do dental work, prepare and anaesthetise animals for theatre and perform many of the day to day non surgical procedures.

We have a separate dedicated operating theatre for all surgical procedures to be performed.

Having an animal undergo surgery is always a worrying time for an owner. We will always be happy to explain the procedure to you and to show you the area where the operations are done. We also make a habit of calling you as soon as your pet is in recovery to let you know how the operation has gone and discuss when they can go home!
As most of our routine procedures are done late morning your pet is normally able to go home later the same day.

The laboratory here at Portland Road means that we can do much of the routine testing of samples here at the surgery. This means that we have accurate results within minutes rather than waiting days for results from a commercial laboratory.

It is especially useful for pre-anaesthetic blood screening for patients undergoing a general anaesthetic. It also is very useful for very ill animals at nights or weekends when traditional laboratories are closed or even for routine screening of patients like diabetics.

We do still send some of the more complex and unusual tests to an international Veterinary Laboratory based in Horsham. Results for these tests are emailed back to us usually within 24 – 48 hours.

All in all a fast accurate and efficient system which means we can offer a high standard of care to your pet.

Dogs can find being in hospital quite stressful and this is only exacerbated if they are sharing their ward with several cats! Kennels are large and spacious with a special walk in kennel to comfortably house the largest of Rottweilers or Great Danes. The kennels all face in the same direction so there is no other dog in direct sight line to bark at! The ward is climate controlled and specially ventilated to help keep it comfortable for our patients and staff alike.

This room is dedicated to quiet time and houses our Veterinary Library. It is an excellent place for any of our staff to research that latest journal article or text book. The Vets also use it for meetings with Drug Company Representatives and weekly case discussions.

Our reception staff are very friendly and will always do their best to ensure you are comfortable if you are waiting to be seen by the Vet or Practice Nurse. Little nervous or excited tinkles are a normal part of their work, so please do inform them if we need to have a clean up!
We have a general clinic information board which is changed regularly to highlight important and topical information as well as a general public notice board for posting all animal matters.

We also have a “pet of the month” award which is given at the end of each month to one pet who has been a special or favourite of the staff. Their picture is displayed on the wall and both owner and pet have a little goodie bag as a prize!

Our reception staff are here to help you in anyway they can so please feel free to ask them for advice. If they cannot answer the question they will direct it to one of our practice nurses or one of the veterinarians.

Our Operating Theatre at Portland Road is situated just adjacent to the treatment room and is where all our sterile proceedures are done. After your pet is anaetshteised and the surgery site aseptically prepared they are transferred into our theatre where there surgery is done.

This is one of our most specialised rooms. This ward is situated just off the treatment room and has facilities such as piped oxygen outlets on the walls and intravenous drip pumps. The temperature of the ward is also climate controlled. This will be where our critically ill patients stay and also where all our post-surgical patients will go as we closely monitor their anaesthetic recovery.

Hospitalised cats have a specialised ward in which to recover while in hospital. This ward has ‘Feliway’ diffusers to help keep cats calm and relaxed in hospital. The room is climate controlled and the cages are designed with the comfort of the feline patient in mind. There is a large sunny window and soft beds on which to curl up and concentrate on sleep and recovery!
